THERE ON THE MANTLE
By Robert A. Muscovitz
June 13, 2004
There on the mantle
Pictures of David
Baby, toddler, young boy and man
Always there smiling
Throughout the years
Moments, mem-ries, us hand in hand
He was a soldier, fighting a war
He’s someone special, all that and more
He was our child, now and before
There on the mantle is David
There in the bedroom
Gloves, bats and balls
Soccer, tennis, good friends and prom
Always there smiling
Through all the years
Then there’s a picture of him kissin’ mom
He was a soldier, this was his goal
He’s someone special, loved rock and roll
He was our child, so wonderful
There in the bedroom is David
Here in this house are the sweet memories
There in the yard, he planted those trees
Here in our heart is the beauty he gave
Everyday flowers and flags on his grave
There in the school
Pictures of David
Running, jumping, trophies to touch
Always there smiling
So it appears
Sophomore, Junior, Senior and such
He was a soldier, Happy to be
He’s someone special, to Mother and me
He is our child, forever we’ll see
He was a boy named David
Who died so that others are free
Part of us all... you and me.
