Story behind the song
A little song about the infamous "Dark Corner" of South Carolina's mountains, where moonshine has been a way of life for generations.
Lyrics
Dark Corner
©2012 Robert Randall Burke
Well, way up on the mountain
Down in South Caroline
There’s a place I know
Where you can go
To get yourself some shine.
Well, they call it the Dark Corner
And it’s way up in the hills
There ain’t no civilization
Just a lot of moonshine stills.
You can get it in an old brown jug
Or in a Mason jar
But I know you’ll never find it
In some old city bar.
Some call the stuff “White Lightnin’”
Some call it “Who Hit John”
One thing I know, it’ll lay you low
And your mind, it will be gone.
If you go up to Dark Corner
You better be aware
If you tell the law just what you saw
A shotgun will part your hair.
