Carl is the interpreter. I provide the bare necessities. “Raw material” is what he calls it. These are fantastically small and simple building blocks: Circuits, wires, speakers, pickups, oscillators, flat-wound strings, wood. For the most part, I know very little of how they work, but sounds are coaxed nonetheless. "Fox & Weathervane" took 2+ years to make, which is by far the longest start to finish time for any record I’ve been involved with. The quality of the album reflects this. In December of 2003, the project began as a one-off remix of a demo for a song called “Scarecrow’s Hat.” The result was so exceptional. The back catalogue was raided and new songs arrived on miniature red wagons just in time to be transformed into swirling rhythmic delights.
