Story behind the song
As immigrants my family came from the old country to the USA way back.. This is about their arrival..
Lyrics
THE PROMISE LAND By Robert A. Muscovitz May 1, 2004 There’s a place where lived a Man and woman on the prairie Many children at their side All of them would marry Life was hard and full of work Just to keep surviving How they loved this country; Ever since arriving Immigrants who came to be A part of who I am No one gave them things for free The did it with their hands “The Promise Land” First a soddy, then a house And barn they built of timber Seven miles down the road A town was built to linger General Store and churches You could hear the bells for miles People came from everywhere With universal smiles Immigrants who came to be A part of who I am No one gave them things for free They did it with their hands.... The Promise Land Wasn’t paved with gold Trouble, toil and hardship came to be The Promise Land Beautiful to hold In your hands A part of you and me, the Promise Land Immigrants all came to be Its freedom and its ways They’re the roots behind it all From bye gone yesterdays Like an army they would stand Together hand in hand Defending life and liberty For this The Promise Land Immigrants who came to be A part of who I am No one gave them things for free They did it with their hands.... The Promise Land Wasn’t paved with gold Trouble, toil and hardship came to be The Promise Land Beautiful to hold In your hands A part of you and me, the Promise Land So if you think about the past Remember all I’m saying The reasons that we’re here today Is freedoms right and praying They came from every continent Around the world you see To this special Promise Land Forever to be free Immigrants who came to be A part of who I am No one gave them things for free They did it with their hands.... The Promise Land Wasn’t paved with gold Trouble, toil and hardship came to be The Promise Land Beautiful to hold In your hands A part of you and me, the Promise Land Robert A. Yessir! I love me some folk music. Thanks Bob, for telling this story and for keeping it simple and sweet. You got some lyrics here that are so perfectly crafted. Your choice of words.... oh boy!

Hey Bob, How are you! Well it looks like we both have a similar theme going here. I was so eager to listen to yours and when I did I got chills listening to your wonderful lyrics! Our fore Fathers were quite the trail blazers in their time. When I think about what they accomplished to gain freedom it humbles me every time. The promise land we call America lives on thanks to them. Great, great song Bob, I love it!
